Let us make some music collaboratively for shits and giggles.
Anyone is free to join in as far as I am concerned.
INSTRUCTIONS: Part 1 installing the stuff.
Step 1.)You need a program to make music. I am suggesting some that are free and small enough anyone can use it. Download the beta 32bit build of buzzmachines. The 64bit is not as stabled and not suggested for use by the devs. Also it explicitly contains no dubstep! http://www.buzzmachines.com/getbuzz.php http://www.jeskola.net/buzz/
Step 2.) Install that shit. I advise letting it pic whatever is default for it. But it can potentially be installed anywhere it is just that you need to find specific folders in later steps and having a default location makes this easier.
Step 3.) You can now download lots of instruments and put them in the instrument folder or if they are effects put them in the effects folder. This is not rocket science.
Top 25 instruments and such http://www.buzzmachines.com/top10.php
Step 4.) What the shit! No VSTs? Indeed self typing this right now, Buzz has no native support for VST plugins but this is easy to fix. http://www.xlutop.com/buzz/
Go here and install the polac vst plugin loader. This is where having default folders comes in handy. Because then you don't need to configure the plugin to know where the folders for instruments are. This is done by starting the program and adding the polac plugin to a project, right clicking it and selecting preferences. It is fairly straight forward.
Making stuff work:
Part 1:what?) Buzzmachines looks a bit confusing and tutorials for it tend to be like a decade old. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77zg3fJyaH0&feature=related
This covers the basics even if it is OOOOLLLD.
Basically one drags effects or generators into the project space. The Generators auto connects to the master which is like the speaker out machine but it also is where parameters for things like bpm and master audio is kept and these can be set as a song is playing via a pattern just like any instrument or effect.
Generator---->---Effect--->---Effect--->---MASTER Connections are one directional.
The Generators make sound. They are instruments. Generators can be connected to other effects by holding shift and dragging a link from one machine to another with the mouse. Generators or effects can't generally be connected to other generators. But going the other direction a generator can be set up to send into one or more other effects or the master. Multiple inputs can be sent to the same machine. But one thing you can't do is basically cross the streams. Generator1 to effect1 to effect2 to effect 3 to effect 1 does not work! A thing being its own input would cause crazy amounts of feedback and all kinds of messed up stuff. The connection will refuse to be made.
The ease with which you can set up complex webs of effects is the major strength of Buzzmachines.
Next there is a song screen for arranging different patterns into a song. It shows columns for different instruments. A pattern must be added here or you will not hear it being played! Occasionally you will need to add a new instrument that is not automatically added this can be done by a right click. You can also add the master track or effects to here and make patterns for those.
Ctrl B sets where the song begins.
Ctrl E sets where the song ends.
0-9 add patterns 0-9 to the song window. After that it goes alphabetical a=10 b=11 c=12 and so on.
Putting period "." In a pattern slot is a blank spot.
"-" is mute
"," is break which does not mute a track but does not play notes during that space.
Pressing Delete does not just clear a pattern slot it deletes it meaning the next row down and all the slots after it move up one space.
Pressing Insert of course does the opposite.
This applies to when you are making patterns.
The last window of note is the pattern editor window. Here you make patterns which later are added to the song. This may be confusing. Typically There are a lot of little - and -- and --- these are spots that parameters are entered into. Typically all the parameters an instrument has gets entered from left to right with a row of --- available to put notes into with maybe a beside it to put a value for volume if you want one note to be different in a pattern. Typically if you see a --- that is where you stick the notes.
Entering notes can be confusing if you have never used a program like this. C on your keyboard does not make the note C it is E. This is because the keyboard you use to type on is used like a two octave keyboard starting at in the bottom left corner, the key Z. To its right is D on the key for X and so on. The row up is all the sharps for the first row, so not all keys have notes on this row. The next row up starting with Q is like the first row. Q is C but one octave higher than the C that the key Z plays. The next row up is the sharps for the row of Q. This is not ideal for someone who knows piano maybe, but a piano can be hooked up to enter keys if you own one. With your hands moving all over the keyboard it becomes fairly natural to enter "." For a blank space and "-" for mute.
New tracks can usually be added to an instrument by right clicking someone over the pattern. The dialog for adding new tracks and or changing the pattern size is also here.
Audio in.) if you want to have audio in that you can record and add to a song and such here is a nice short tutorial on how. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkHZnhpgHDw
Your sound driver may be a bit different but this is the general idea.
Audio Clips.) one clicks on the wavetable tab. Go to a folder and just add clips to the side panel . You can then edit it a little to make it loop or fade out and such but it is fairly limited and more complicated edits are done either live or before adding the sound clip.
To then add the sound in a song add a Tracker machine. There are a number of them you can download but basically they are just like a normal instrument but you have a tab to select the instrument number and the note c-4 is playing the note at 100% speed.
OH GOD WHAT IS THAT SOUND! ) Buzzmachine instruments and effects can sometimes wildly malfunction. This van be really cool and deliberately triggered but then again mostly it is awful if you are not planning on it. It is mostly caused by a really loud sound coming in way louder than was planned and messing up even further once an effect adds feedback to the effect. It then sends out this messed up signal to whatever effects it is connected to which can lead to multiple machines going bad all of a sudden. There is a panic button that mutes all sound input but it does not stop the machines from going on doing what they are doing. Deleting a machine and then undoing sometimes works but more often not. You can save and load. You can also copy an effect with parameters and then delete the original machine and hook it up as it was before. This forces buzz to make a new memory location for the machine that is not filled with bad data.
Recording stuff.) The "hard disk recorder" in the edit tab at the top is what you want. It seems fairly straight forward.
Preferences.) This is also in the edit tab at the top. This is where you would change things like what audio driver you are using and such. Most of it is simple enough. Either some setting works or it does not and you figure out what drivers work for you. Usually you don't need to mess with this stuff.
Editing sound clips.) Audacity is free but not that great. Still it is good enough for chopping up some loops and such so check it out if you want something simple and free.

fucking magnets how do they work
fucking magnets how do they work
penis magic
i'm actually sober enough to make sense of this now
thanks audo
also, i did try to buzz some sounds but failed to connect generators which was a pretty terrible start really. but i did try. more than a few times.
also, also, i'm just going to add that lovely blip you made if that is ok.
